Our History
ARA Tap (Artistic Rhythms Alliance) was established August 2009 by a union
of dancers formerly from the tap company Step Aside. Brought back together by their love of dance, the group found its name
by the commonality of the A & R in the first names of its original members and used the abbreviation to be symbolic of
their musical artistry and their newly formed alliance. As tap dancers, the members have had the opportunity
to work with several renowned tap dancers to include: Lane Alexander, Artis Brienzo, Heather Cornell, Mark Goodman, Josh Hilberman,
Jeannie Hill, Yvonne Edwards, Renee Kreithen, Nancy Newell, Barbara Bingley, Shawna Frey and Byron Chen. Their performance
experience includes: Dance Place, East Coast Jazz Festival, Kennedy Center’s Millenium Stage, Chicago Human Rhythm Project
Tap Festival, Soles of Steel Tap Festival, and New York City’s Duke Theatre and the Lincoln Center. This year, the company
has had the opportunity to perform at the Metropolitan Youth Tap Ensemble’s Concert and Morgan State University’s
Dorothy Stanley Scholarship Concert. ARA Tap is glad to be back in the Tap Community and will be hosting a holiday specTAPular in December.
